Obtain and prepare specimens for laboratory testing. Perform functions in the reporting of laboratory data and charting of laboratory reports.

KEY RESPONSI! BILITIES / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Collects, transports and receives specimens with knowledge regarding age specific laboratory needs of the neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient.

Performs clerical duties necessary to process laboratory specimens and reports.

Inventories and stocks supplies. Checks, inspects and ensures proper storage and handling.

Responsible for all documentation required for the tasks performed.

Must demonstrate current abilities in areas of assigned responsibility by successful completion of annual laboratory competency tests. Must demonstrate annual competency and perform phlebotomy at least 20% of the time they work.

Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.

Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook

Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating! positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, col! leagues and with self.

Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.

Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.

All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

High school graduate or possess a GED certificate. Previous experience in phlebotomy or graduation from an accredited phlebotomy program is required.

Must be able to operate general office equipment, computers and general laboratory equipment. Possesses a valid driver’s license and able to operate a vehicle. Must be insurable by DCH auto insurance if performing courier or nursing home duties. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must have with or without reasonable accommodation mobility sufficient to move about including standing, reaching, stooping/crouching, bending, lifting, turning, a! nd handling; vision and hearing normal or correctable to normal; color vision normal; good motor skill coordination with good manual and finger dexterity; ability to lift with assistance, objects weighing in excess of 100 lbs. Frequent lifting of and/or carrying of objects weighing 10 lbs. or more. Includes exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, laboratory chemicals and hazardous material. Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment. Physical presence onsite is essential. Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range. Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
