Job Summary The Associate Clinical Nutritionist is responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy appropriate for age and disease state of pediatric patients under the! mentorship of a Clinical Nutritionist-1. Has faculty appointments at the University of Alabama, Birmingham and the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, and is responsible for precepting graduate and undergraduate dietetic students. Provides education to the medical staff on nutrition-related issues. Responsible for initiating orders within the defined scope of practice to implement appropriate nutrition care in a timely manner.
Responsible for the case management of certain patient populations including, but not limited to, ketogenic diet therapy and home TPN. Establishes protocols for medical nutrition Therapy (MNT) for the organization. Initiates nutrition interventions as defined. The Associate Clinical Nutritionist must: Demonstrate basic knowledge of pediatric growth and development and rapidly recognize deviations from the norm without considering a number of unproductive alternatives.
Demonstrate proficiency in assessment and management of patients w! ithin the scope of practice (including implementation of care ! plan). Utilize resources to broaden clinical skills and enhance professional growth and actively apply learned skills/knowledge. Support CHS and the department's philosophy of patient care, education, and research. Actively support the growth and development of the department's programs.
Education Bachelor's degree in nutrition from a program accredited by the American Dietetic Association AND current enrollment in a Master's degree program in food and nutrition accredited by the American Dietetic Association. Experience 6-12 months of clinical nutrition work experience, pediatric experience preferred. Completion of an accredited pediatric nutrition fellowship or leadership program is preferred. Licensures, Certifications, and/or Registries Certification in area of specialization (for example, but not limited to, CDE, CNSC, CSP, CSR) is preferred.
Licensed by the State Board of Examiners for Dietetics/Nutrition Practice in the State of Alabama is required.! Registry eligible by the Commission of Dietetics Registration. Registration is required within 3 months of hire.
