THE ORGANIZATION

Health & Human Resource Education Center (HHREC) creates healthy communities through intergenerational and innovative approaches to wellness programs and services. HHREC blends health, art, media, and local community voices to create community-based prevention and early intervention strategy that addresses collective physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. All programs engage local residents (children, youth, adults, and elders), consumers, family members, and service providers to organize, design and plan program activities. HHREC is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization committed to creating healthy communities by improving Bay Area residents' overall health and quality of life.

The Health Through Art Program Coordinator acts as a public representative of the agency. The Health Through Art (HTA) Program Coordinator promotes health and wellness on behalf of HHREC within Alameda County. This position reports to the Program Director and the Executive Director. The HTA Program Coordinator supports the mission of HHREC.


THE POSITION

The Health Through Art Program Coordinator works directly with the Transitional Age Youth (TAY) Wellness Hub Director and Executive Director in providing ongoing services that support youth and young adults in receiving trauma-informed education, peer support, and opportunities for cultural awareness and creative expression. The HTA Coordinator will support youth substance use disorders SUD PEI activities and coordinate a broad-based coalition of stakeholders called the Community Advisory Board (CAB). This position is ideal for someone passionate about young adults and community wellness, has experience coordinating prevention programs, and enjoys building relationships across organizations to find common ground and work towards shared goals.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Facilitate three online or in-person art workshops for 12–15 unique participants and assist participants in using art to support their mental health wellness
  • Coordinate three in-person art workshops and one online art show with community-based organizations and ACBH-contracted providers.
  • Produce and publicize one educational campaign centered around behavioral health care needs
  • Produce two online social media public service announcements for the winning artists
  • Maintain records on the community-based providers and community advocates engaged in campaigns, the number of campaign materials distributed, and locations of distribution


THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as an ambassador for substance abuse prevention. Attend school, community, and local government meetings and make presentations
  • Work collaboratively with HHREC staff to reach youth and families
  • Recruit and supervise interns and volunteers to assist with projects and support social media postings and announcements
  • Recruit, facilitate, and sustain the involvement of a Youth Community Advisory Board
  • Plan, coordinate and successfully implement community-based events, and administer agenda plans for fun, active, and art-based job activities, virtual and in-person
  • Supervise and support student interns
  • Produce PEI reports in partnership and under the guidance of the TAY Wellness Hub Program Director, and Executive Director
  • Promote awareness of mental health issues, especially as they relate to mental health and co-occurring SUD
  • Promote health, wellness, and reduce stigma and discrimination
  • Provide coordination and support for TAY Wellness Hub program activities and events and support HTA vendors and facilitators
  • Communicate weekly with the Downtown TAY Coordinator, MHSA Program Manager, Program Director, or Executive Director via text, zoom, or phone call
  • Maintain files and program intake for each HTA participant, Google Calendar and drive, and daily tracker
  • Provide leadership support for TAY Peer leaders in coordinating ongoing communication, event assignments, and attending cultural awareness activities
  • Outreach and marketing to community-based organizations and BHCS TAY System of Care programs and the general young adult population
  • Provide office support (phones, office maintenance, deliveries, etc.)
  • Attend annual training twice a year
  • Collaborate and partner with stakeholders, and support The TAY Wellness Building staff and vendor
  • Plan, coordinate and successfully implement community-based events
  • Facilitate meetings, provide public presentations, and at times train on utilizing media
  • Other duties as assigned


THE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience working with diverse communities and community-based services
  • Education and familiarity in the mental health field, substance abuse, or health and community-focused related fields
  • Plan, coordinate and successfully implement community-based events.
  • Recruit and supervise interns and volunteers to assist with projects and support social media postings and announcements
  • Facilitate meetings, provide public presentations, and at times train on utilizing media
  • Recruit, facilitate, and sustain the involvement of a Youth Community Advisory Board
  • Experience in implementing programs that appreciate lived experiences, provide health education, promote wellness and recovery, and engage diverse community members
  • Familiarity with Alameda County’s mental health, substance abuse, community-based service provider networks, and resources
  • Experience working with communities of color


This full-time, non-exempt position requires in-person attendance. The Executive Director may permit a hybrid work schedule. The salary range is $19.00 - $20.75 per hour.
