Position will support Recreation programming for our in various programming areas. These are public facing in-person positions.

SPR’s Recreation Division eliminates barriers through responsive, exceptional recreation services. We operate over 50 recreation facilities (community centers, teen centers, pools, school-based learning centers, environmental learning centers, boating and sailing centers) and provide opportunities for people to play, learn, and lead healthy, active lives. Our programs and events include fitness and athletics, licensed childcare and preschool, swimming and boating, youth development and job preparation, academic enrichment, and more - including programs designed for older adults and people with disabilities, as well as grant and partnership programs designed and implemented with communities.

Job Responsibilities

Community Centers: Recreation Leaders assigned to our Community Centers work to collaboratively develop and implement community recreation programming serving all ages. The position supports the daily customer service needs and operations of the Community Center. The Recreation Leaders work collaboratively with department staff and multiple partners including: the Association Recreation Council, Seattle Public Schools, other City departments and community groups. These are Part-time benefited positions. The work schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Requires one year experience in a community-based recreation program and an Associate Degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

Desired Qualifications:
  • One year of experience in planning and implementing a program budget, developing program timelines, and program administration.
  • Competitive candidates will be able to demonstrate a history of developing programs to meet the needs of all age groups including youth and teens in a diverse urban population.
  • Demonstrate strong cultural competencies and experience working with culturally specific communities which may include immigrant and first-generation refugee populations and the ability to lead both traditional and nontraditional recreation activities for a variety of age groups.
  • Ability to speak a second language.
  • Ability to work in partnership with residents of all ages, businesses, and other community agencies to design, implement, and evaluate programs.
  • Familiar with computer software products (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and program scheduling software).

Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
  • Requires working outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Normally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • May require strenuous physical activity.

License, Certification and Other Requirements
  • Current State of Washington driver's license and/or evidence of equivalent mobility.
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate required within six months of hire.

The full salary range for this position is $20.75 - $33.33 per hour.
