Location: Birmingham, Alabama

  • Greets, directs & communicates with all patients using considerate and professional demeanor.
  • Adheres to precautions according to company policy
  • Proper disposal of biohazard wastes and sharps waste
  • Maintains and fulfills all required documentation
  • Receives and processes specimens
  • Collects & properly labels specimens
  • Performs lab testing & interprets results
  • Assists in maintaining and stocking inventory of laboratory supplies
  • Maintains a clean work environment and disinfects work surfaces routinely and as needed.
  • Performs other duties as needed to support the department
  • Enters results into the computer system
  • Prepares, packages and arranges for transport of specimens as needed.
  • Exhibits knowledge of specimens collection procedures and is able to clearly communicate with patients the collection instructions.
  • Performs data entry to order appropriate test using a laboratory information system.
  • Answers & assist the telephone inquiries.
  • Minimum of one year pediatric experience
REQUIREMENTS

  • Must provide copy of high school diploma or GED
  • Ability to perform a variety of procedures to assist in providing laboratory information services, including pediatric blood drawing, and specimen handling.
  • Minimum of six months of phlebotomy experience within the last year
  • Minimum of one year pediatric experience
  • Basic data entry skills required
  • Must possess good verbal communication skills
  • Completion of an accredited training program in phlebotomy
  • Must have general knowledge of medical terminology and routine laboratory techniques and procedures
  • Must pass background, TB and drug screenings.
